as an egalitarian, i ask ................
all the foreign news sites i visited, including our indiatimes.com-- have spelled the muslim veil as NIQAB. i think, it's spelled as "NAQAB. can somebody pls tell if i am wrong or right?
here's an article from "thestar.com" must read plz
"Muslim lobby group urges Ottawa to ban burkas, niqabs", Published On Wed Oct 07 2009, THE CANADIAN PRESS
Middle Eastern garments designed to cover a woman's face are "medieval" and "misogynist" symbols of extremism with no basis in Islam, a Canadian Muslim lobby group said Wednesday as it urged Ottawa to ban the burka and the niqab.
The Muslim Canadian Congress called on the federal government to prohibit the two garments in order to prevent women from covering their faces in public – a practice the group said has no place in a society that supports gender equality.
"To cover your face is to conceal your identity," congress spokeswoman Farzana Hassan said in a telephone interview, describing the issue as a matter of public safety, since concealing one's identity is a common practice for criminals.
The tradition of Muslim women covering their faces in public is a tradition rooted more in Middle Eastern culture than in the Islamic faith, Hassan added.
There is nothing in any of the primary Islamic religious texts, including the Qur'an, that requires women to cover their faces, she said – not even in the controversial, ultra-conservative tenets of Sharia law.
Considering the fact that women are in fact forbidden from wearing burkas in the grand mosque in Mecca, Islam's holiest site, it hardly makes sense that the practice should be permitted in Canada, she said.

why the veil???????
"naqab" has been banned in quebec province, canada. this is the news. now why or why not a muslim woman has the right to cover her face, is a matter of debate. albeit, the woman was allowed to sit at the front seat of the class, plus she gave presentations from the rear so male students could not see her????
well, given the fact that muslims are slightly conservative, i think this was a radical behaviour on her part.....i know many muslim guys and girls, who are not the least orthodox, and i never had to think about their religion.
still, Canada is following in the footsteps of France, with the banning of the veil in quebec province.i checked out some comments on the online news sites, and some muslim people have expressed anger at the "hardline" policy of the govt. it's deliciously sensitive. so i would like a comment or two from the visitors.
P.S- come to india, all of you people, coz we never think about imposing any religious sanctions. :)

continuing the previous post
so folks, it strikes me as pretty amusing that the lady is being accused of destructive narcissism. why? coz she has been allegedly using the public exchequer to erect statues- of herself!!!!!
now, that's not wrong and could have been overlooked ( mind you all, i don't believe in criticism being tagged with caste), but she recently shied away from distributing money to some kin of stampede victims.............
is the govt. hand to mouth????????
are we slowly becoming comatose - intellectually , that is.....
since i do some comment moderating in the online newspaper, i come across all the types of comments- abusive, satirical, scathing, dogmatic, and lastly the ones who comment just for the heck of it !!!! hahaha...
can't really post the comments, as it would be a breach of privacy, but how i wish i could have been able to post some of the comments.
you know, the sad thing is that the Common Madam is also being abused, on account of her caste as well. this means, we Indians always tend to attribute a small percentage of blame to the person's caste as well!!!
IS IT OR ISN'T IT??????????

of bees and bucks!!!!!!!!
what rudeness could have happened yesterday, regarding a certain 'empowered' Common Madam ! i mean, it was surely a rerun of "midsummer night's dream", as some bees had to wake up the lady from her sleep!! the fickle indian crowd could not restrain themselves from making ribald comments>>>>
while yours truly was a bit sad at the odd smell of the garlands. oops, i said it. sorry. trump up a case against me pls. call in the lions.
to err is human, to forgive divine; But to forgive again is simply Bovine
hi all, this is me- a clearly confused Indian, vying against his usual conflicting thoughts. anyways, as an intern in a reputed online newspaper, i get subjected to a lot of diverse perspectives.
so much so, that in fact i get confused sometimes, hence the apt title. haha. so i will be posting events of interest, i.e for the general homosapien, which ought to be attention worthy!
hope to see some welcome comments from you folks!!!!
